Dangerous Employees

There are several warning signs of a dangerous employee. According to research on workplace violence, there are several indicators that should not be ignored. Some warning signs include:

  • Acting on impulses or emotion
  • Having outbursts of rage
  • Blaming others and having a victim attitude
  • Talking about getting even
  • Being a loner
  • Talking about weapons
  • Committing low level assaults such as pushing
  • Mood swings

When you notice these warning signs in an employee, don’t ignore these patterns of risky behavior. Sit the employee down and address their problematic behaviors. It is also important to listen to the employee as they may just want to be heard. Address any legitimate complaints and inform the employee on more effective ways on getting needs met in the workplace. You can also refer the employee to the Employee Assistance Program.
